Answer
You really don't have to do much if the horse is already fit and racing. There are many variables for each individual horse. If the horse is completely sound then you can proceed to gallop him for 1-2 miles with a mile warm up, 3 to 4 days a week with an additional day focussing on speed conditioning. You should "workout" the horse 3 furlongs at racing speed every 5 to 6 days. You may choose to walk or jog the horse for a few days after the workout as a rest period. The horse should be eating well and happy to train. Be careful not to over train. You should provide unlimited, quality hay. You should provide 12 to 18 lbs of grain a day based on weight and workload. Provide fresh, clean water daily. If the horse stops eating, starts refusing to train, becomes lame, then back off until you determine the cause. You could be over training or the horse may have an injury or a problem you will need help with diagnosing.

This is a basic conditioning regiment and should be carefully monitored. DO NOT proceed if the horse shows signs of lameness, swelling in the joints, comes off feed or sickness.

*** I do not recommend training horses without professional assistance and an "on call" veterinarian. ***
