Question
QUESTION: hello sir, do full cheek snaffles help a horse maintain a straight course during the race?

ANSWER: hi -- i do not think that this bit would make a horse keep a straight course. it is a very regular type bit.there are many more bits you could try to see how much control the jockey would have when using that type of bit..  i always try to try the bit out on the horse first to make sure the bit works good. thanks ED HESS

QUESTION: sir, then which is the bit that makes a horse maintain a straight course during the race, especially the bit for 2year old thoroughbred racehorses?

Answer
hi --- there are many bits you can use , but they should all be tried out on the horse before you run the horse in a race.  Dexter ring bit snaffle is not too severe, but i have used them on a horse that gets out or gets in during a race.  you should always check the horses mouth for problems that may cause the horse to not run a straight course.. i use a figure 8 on that type of a horse because that gives the rider more control. you can also use what i call a run out blinker which is a full covered blinker to keep the horse from seeing the outside while racing.. always try the equipment on the horse first in a morning workout to make sure it corrects the problem.. thanks ED HESS
