long distance for horses when to pick up speed

2016/7/15 11:24:37

Question
hello sir, may i know from which distance(6 or 5 furlongs) should the horse pickup good speed when distanced at 10furlongs or more than that. generally, horses start from a slow canter from the starting gates at long distance. please tell me sir!!!!

Answer
hi  well it is up to the jockey and the horse to decide when to pick up the pace in the race. some horses just run the last quarter mile and win. others run a good half mile at the end to get up to win the race. you just have to know your horse and how he or she runs in a long distance race. thanks ED HESS
