starting on farm getting to track

Question
I have ben a breeder of show horses for over 20 years, but I am new (6Yrs.)to race horses. I currently have a 4 yr. old, 3 yr. old and a couple of two yrs. on my farm. They are all NY Breds. I need to know how to prep them on the farm to the point that a trainer would be willing to take them. My 4 yr. old gelding is well broke and good tempered I need to see what I need to do to get him track ready, then possibly give him to a New York trainer in the hopes of a breeders award. I'm on a shoe string and would give the horse up  with the hopes that he may come back to the farm after racing for someone. I may be able to truck him into one of our smaller tracks. I just need to know if there is a system that you found that works well and at what point do you know if you have a race horse or just a show horse. I can always sell a show horse.
Thanks

Answer
hi   well you will have to train these horses for at last 3 months to get them ready to go to the race track to a trainer. 30 days of galloping about 1 MILE  to 1 1/2 MILE a day. then another 30 days of galloping with a work every week starting at 3/8  the next week 1/2 mile  then 5/8 of a mile then the last week 3/4 of a mile,  then the last 30 days of galloping along all this time , you should get the gate work in   standing at the gate etc.  the last 30 days should be galloping  and  jogging to keep the horse fit and settled down. you will need to check legs every day too for swelling etc. i always do up the legs with just basic alcohol to keep them cool and tight . you should tell your future trainer to come to the farm to look at the horses to let you know what he thinks about them. a reGULAR feed plan, hay . there is a lot of work ahead of you but i know you can take it if you really want to get them ready to race.   hope this helps you   thanks ED HESS
