Picking and choosing race entries

Question
Hi,

Ive recently become interested in horse racing in the UK and like to think that iv acquired a decent knowledge of the sport so far. However, there are a few things that still confuse me and i wonder if you can help!

Firstly, how do trainers/owners choose what races to enter horses in?Iv recently noticed some very well known flats horses in the UK entering a range of different races that other just-as-well-known flats horses dont enter. Why would that be?

Answer
hi well the owners and trainers do confer on which race and what type of race fits the horse better.  like a turf race over a dirt race and then weather the horse likes the off going etc. then they look for a soft spot for the horse to run in. it also depends on the distance for the race . lots of reasons for the type of race to put your horse in. hope that helps you   thanks ED HESS
