2 year olds - carrying whip

2016/7/15 11:23:32

Question
hello sir, as a racehorse trainer, in general, will you instruct your jockeys to carry a whip while riding all 2 year old racehorses in the race or workouts? if yes, how many smacks to be given per furlong?

Answer
hi you should have trained them in the morning using the whip to see what they would do when being hit with a whip. most jocks will carry a whip when riding a 2 year old. only if the horse does not care to be hit with a whip, then the trainer should note this and ask not to carry a whip on that 2 year old during a race. thanks ED HESS
