What happens when a horse fails a drug test?

2016/7/15 11:29:04

Question
Hi -- I'm a longtime racing fan and a writer currently working on a racing story.

If a winner's urine test comes up positive for a drug, what happens next? Is the trainer called to a meeting with someone (the stewards?) Assuming it's decided that the trainer should serve a suspension and pay a fine, who communicates that to him, and does he have to sign anything? And what happens with paying back the purse money?

Thanks!

Answer
hi if A  horse has a bad test,  then the trainer will get suspended for a period of time and he or she may have to also pay a fine. all this is decided by the track stewards and the racing commission. the owner would be responsible of paying back any purse  money. hope this will help you.  thanks ED HESS
