Jockeys Riding Technique

2016/7/15 11:29:36

Question
Question on the Kentucky Derby - the jockey on Smarty Jones at the end of the race was really moving his arms more than going with the motion of the horse almost pushing into the horse's neck. Is that a way to get the horse to go faster? (I do ride english so I know something!)

Answer
hi---  yes that is what i call  riding the horse out past the finish. he was scrubbing , what i mean is that he was pushing the horse to his full stride  lots of jockeys do that in a strong finish. i prefer that on my horses in a race. but it is a very common riding style. thanks ED
