how do i get started

I am wondering how to get started on being a jockey?  Is there any place in Michigan where I could start out?  I'm almost 16 and I know i can get a jockey license.  Also do you have any advice for me when I'm starting out?  Thank you.

Go to Pinnacle Downs and start getting on horses for any trainer you can. One of those trainers will be able to help you get your license. The state may have different requirements for getting approved to ride in races. You will most likely have to break out of gates and be approved by another jockey or even the starter. You will have to get a physical as well. The first step is to go see the track stewards, after you get in with a good trainer, and tell them you would like to get started on getting approved to receive a license.

I answered this question with the assumption that you have experience working race horses and have been exercising horses at a local farm. If you have not, then I highly recommend you start out at a training center. I can give you some names of trainers in Michigan who need race horses broke at their farm and older horses exercised.
