How Much Work Should I Do With My 2 Year Old?

Question
Hello, my name is Paige and I have been trying to start my two year old. He's Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse. Hes about 15HH at the withers now. I need some help on how much I should do with him this Summer, I dont want to over do it. I was hoping you could help me out!

I don't usually answer questions about anything other than Thoroughbred racehorses, but in this case, maybe I can still help a little.  Horses are still horses, and some things remain the same regardless of whether they ae racehorses or pleasure horses.
Generally speaking, let your horse guide you in determining how much work is too much.  Keep a close eye on him physically and mentally.  Watch for any signs of fatigue or soreness, or any change in attitude like getting sour, or refusing to work when previously he has been very willing.
Young horses particularly can be prone to swelling when overworked.  Keep a close eye for puffy ankles, knees or any swelling where previously there was none.

Since you sound like perhaps you are a novice with babies, perhaps the best advice would be to find a good trainer close by who would mentor you, and help you with the early training.  Time and care spent at these early stages will be more than rewarded with a sound and well trained adult in later years.

Good Luck!
