Thoroughbred Training License

Question
How do you get a thorobred training license in New York State?

Answer
Diane

The rules on getting a trainer's license vary from state to state, but as a rule, all states require that an applicant pass a written test and a barn test.  The written test is usually 100 questions covering race conditions, general care, routine veterinary questions and rules and regulations.  The barn test usually includes putting on bandages, bridle, saddle, tongue tie, and other practicle skills.
Some states, and I believe that NY is one, require an applicant to be licensed on the track for a minimum period of time before being allowed to take the trainer's test.
In order to be certain of the requirements, call the stewards at Belmont Park and they will tell you the particulars for the state of NY.  Be certain to call on a day that Belmont is actually racing, as the stewards don't work on days without racing, and call in the morning.  Once the races start in the afternoon, the stewards are very busy, and often don't have time to chat.

Good Luck!
