elliptical and mcl

Question
Hello there! :) I have been using the elliptical machine 5 days a week since November and I haven't had any problems up until last week. The only difference is I have about doubled my workout duration from 30 minutes to an hour. Two years ago I sprained my MCL on my right knee by wakeboarding and that caused me to stay off of it for 2+ months and the pain that I get from the elliptical is in the exact same spot as where I sprained it. Its not like bad, bad pain but I can definitely feel it. I can also feel the pain not only while I'm doing the elliptical but long afterwards. What would you suggest? Ibuprofen? Rest? Different cardio exercise (I can't do the treadmill because it causes shin splints)? I'm open to trey anything.

Answer
Hi Kendra
I recommend the stationary up right bike with 45 min workouts as often as you can which will help with your tracking and alignment and strengthening your quads which also helps supporting and stabilizing your knee.I would also add 500mg vit c to enhance recovery of tendons, ligaments which is also your medial collateral ligament and collagen.Do no elliptical or other exercises and no meds because they just mask a false sense of recovery. Most important is a great great deal of patience making a come back Kendra.Be Patient and you will come back stronger than ever.

All the best
Kendra
