Exercise heart rate

2016/7/22 10:07:15

Question
I am 180 lb 66 yr old male in generally good health, but smoked for 40+ years.  After "spotty" exercise for some years, for the past 4 months have been increasing treadmill/bike/eliptical.  Am up to 4.2 miles in an hour - but when I run for a few minutes, heart rate jumps to 150+. How can I tell when/if this gets dangerous?  My goal is to run 5 miles in less than hour by summer.  Any suggestions appreciated.
