Calf Pain from Marathon Training

2016/7/22 10:13:04

Question
Hi. I am hoping you have some advice for me. I have been training for my first Marathon the last two months. Last week I ran shorter 8k run the next day after that I began to have right leg calf pain in my mid calf just below the 'divot' in my calf muscles. It is a dull ache that can be sharp at times especially during push off in my stride. I took it easy for a couple days and then tried running again. It was fine for the first few miles and then the pain came back.  I'm just curious what this might be.

Thanks,

Kalan

Answer
Hi Kalan
You can trace all problems by retracing back in your schedule, but the bottom line is you over did it some place. It is probably a little strain or pull. Not knowing where you are in your schedule,i would recomend biking till it heals and take 500mg of vit.c with your 3 meals a day and a lot of icing. You just have to let it heal.I would give the biking 2 weeks and then go for an easy run for an hour and then evaluate it.If you have any other questions get it touch.

Best regards

John
