training for a half/marathon

2016/7/22 10:10:20

Question
John,

I have been running. I run three miles three times a week and on the weekend do a longer run.  Last Sat. I ran 6 1/2 miles and this Sat. I ran 7 1/2.  I am interested in trying to run a half marathon. What type of training would you recommend?

Also, there is a 10 mile trail run coming up and I was curious to how hard a trail run would be compared to street running?

Thanks so much for your help!
Ashley

Answer
Hi Ashley
To respond to your question properly for the half marathon, could you please give me more detailed info on your your past and present running such as age, height, weight, years running, time you would like to finish and the date of the race. The trail run would be based on the terrain. Some are comfortable and others are scary and some in between. The street would be quite a bit more relaxing and less chance of injury such as a twisted ankle etc.Look forward to hearing back from you ashley.

All the best

John
