legs hurt

Question
I start my run w/ a power walk for 5mins. Then start to run/jog. After I've only gone about 2mins. my calves start to ache so bad I can not even push myself to go 5mins. So I start power walking again the rest of the 2miles. I just recently started to run 2miles about 1mo. ago. I'm very new at this.  I know I need new shoes and I'm getting them this weekend.  I take mulit-vitamins, zinc, and B-12. Do I need something else to help w/ my legs?

Answer
Hi Windy:

Good shoes are the key to prevent injury.  This is good that you are getting a new pair.  Usually it is common for beginner runners to experience pain.  The main reason is due to the fact they usually go too hard too quick.  Slow down and don't worry about speed until after you have been running for a few months consistently.  Stretch well after your runs and only go out 3-4 times a week for the first while

good luck

margie :-)
