Joints

Question
I have been running for the first time in about a year, I was 1 mile and 1.5 mile runs daily but during my second week my joints started killing me. Knees and Ankles (mostly ankles around the sides and at the bottom of that weird bone sticking out). Was wondering if i can do anything to fix this A.S.A.P and how i could prevent it.

Answer
Dear Jonathen

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618, Ukranian Village 60622, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...

For your ankle & knee pains.Your symptoms are too vague & so I will interpret as you being out of shape.
Start with a good set of running shoes & let your body recover 3 days after your runs. Slowly build up your mileage & try to run on even terrain until your muscle memory starts to kick in, which should be @ 3-4 weeks. Change the intensity of the workout & gradually build to the 3-4 week mark.
This advice is for someone who has been in shape & has exercised most of their life. Back off from any pain & give the body the 3 days to recover. If your joint aches continue, then it's time to see your podiatrist or sport's med doctor. If you are over 30, out of shape, or overweight-add a few weeks to get back into it. I exercise 3 times a week, am in my 60's, and if I get injured, takes a few weeks to get back to where I was. No miracles my friend. Just good exercise & attention to your body & physiology.
Hope this helps & Good Luck!
