leg numbness

Question
Hello,
I am a recreational jogger...mostly to keep fit for curling.
I jog 2 -3 times a week for approximately 5 kms.

Lately, I have had my lower leg (front left leg from calf to toes) go numb about a mile into my jog. I have had to stop the last couple of times cause i feel like I am jogging with a tree stump. It is uncomfortable and painful.

Feeling comes back a few minutes after I stop jogging.
FRUSTRATING...

Answer
Hi Julie
The wide range of your situation is a quite normal thing from individuals who are new to running and just dabble in a few runs from time to time. I personally experienced those same things years ago.Knowing what i know today as an athlete who ran at the top of his career 100 to a 130 miles a week the one single thing that causes most problems is tracking and alignment of the muscular skeleton system. Two things based on limited info is a neuroma (pinched nerve) or possible iliotibial band syndrome. Both problems can be corrected with a lot of up write stationary bike work outs for 30 min to 1 hr. as often as you can.The most important thing is to keep me informed so we can keep tweaking the program if you want to keep working with me Julie.

All the very best
to you.

John
