patella tendinitis

Question
My daughter has been having a lot of pain and swelling in her knees just below the knee cap.  We have done some physical therapy and plyometrics to see if we could strengthen areas that might need it. It seemed to have helped for a month or so and then after some vigorous workouts and games(basketball) they got worse. The knees have shown swelling for over a year now.

Answer
Hi Dave
Patella tendinitis should not cause any swelling just discomfort. It is very possible a little bursitis.I have copied a link on this for you browse through.

I would not rush into the doctors office.Based on your info she has had this for a long time which is not good.I would stop all activities till this is resolved, since further problems will develop for sure.I have used an up right stationary bike workouts for this kind of situation for years including my self and 100's of other clients. with great success.Since this is a delicate on going problem i would love to talk to you and your daughter so i can drill down farther to get more clarity from the start till present with a telephone call if you would like at no charge. This way i can get a much clearer picture of what direction to take.I'm here in Albuquerque NM.You can get my number on my web site.I'm available any time that is convenient for you.

All the best

John
