running - ankle injury

Question
I am a beginning runner (since Feb) doing interval training (currently at run 4 minutes, brisk walk 1 minute for 40-50 minutes ?3x per week).  I slowly increase my run portion when I am comfortable at the new level ?generally every 3 weeks or so.

Almost 2 weeks ago, I must have injured my ankle ?but I didn抰 feel anything while running.  The next day brought some pain and swelling.  I laid off of running for a few days.  Last Friday I ran again ?okay while running, but re-aggravated the ankle.   I have not run since then ?but have tried to stay active with light biking and lifting weights for areas not affected by this problem.

The problem is the right ankle only.  Outside and to the right of the Achilles (but not actually on the Achilles).  Occasionally I will feel it to the left of the Achilles.

I抳e tried to research this but am only finding other types of ankle injuries.  I really miss running and would like to get back to it!  Any ideas what the problem is?  Thanks!!

Answer
Hi Jill
It appears you have some weakest on that side of your body and the alignment and tracking seems to be a little off causing that right ankle to carry more weight. If the interval workouts are being done on a track that could be the problem also and your body is just not recovering.I would suggest stationary bike a few times a week to correct some alignment and tracking and cut your interval to two times and do them on a straight away are.I you have other questions Jill just get in touch and let me know if that did the trick.

All the best

John
