Calf Muscle Injury

Question
Hi,
I keep starting jogging at very light levels, barely running, but frustratingly a
calf muscle injury from 5 years ago keeps recurring. In fact over the past few
years both calves have 'gone' usually each time I start to get into my run.

I allow recovery time, do stretches as directed but they do seem very weak.
Would I be advised to wear heel lifts in a good pair of trainers?

It's especially frustrating as I now live across from a park!

Answer
Cold stretches before a run do little to 'warm it up properly'.  Using a massaging stick device helps out with warming up the muscles & nerves better.  I think perhaps your calf issues could be due to improper warm-up techniques.  You can use a massage stick device, like the ones I use in my videos at http://youtube.com/speeddialcoach  Check out my "Tune Up" video for warming up with a rolling pin, and see the full warm-up on the start of my "Power & Control" video.
