Trying to love running

Question
Hi there: I am a 33 year old, attempting to run 5 miles. This is a personal goal for me following my met goal of running my first 5k.  I weight 155 lbs and am 5'5'' tall.
I have great running shoes, but little enjoyment for running.  I have been running at least 3 times a week for about a year now in the afternoons-typically on neighborhood roads.
My first question is: what do i need to be sure to eat and drink to ensure energy to run-but not gain weight?? I am usually pretty tired after work-should i just run fatigued or eat something to pep me up?
Second question: i recently returned from a 10 day trip to Europe, and as I am getting back into running-my face is getting really red, and I feel like I am not sweating as much.  Therefore, I stop before I even finish 2.5 miles.  What causes this????
Thanks:
Elizabeth

Answer
Hi Elizabeth
Question 1..Just a well balance meal of carbs, protein, veg, and good fats such as olive oil.Plain water for drink. After work just get out there and start slowly and you will start to burn off the biz stress and feel great. No need for food just maybe a little water if need be.Question..2
The redness is just a lack of blood flow and lack of conditioning and and overheating.Nothing to be concerned with except your out of shape and need to be more consistent with your program, which i'm sure you know. The better shape your in the more you SWEAT...What causes that? The body developes a collateril process of the arterial network base on the increased workload of the excercise you choose and continue to perform. The key to get in great shape Elizabeth is very simple.Develope a goal your comfortable with and be very consistent with your balance diet and a good quality exercise program that touches all muscle groupes and cardiovascular systems.Sorry but this is just the way it is,but as time passes you will thank me for telling you the real truth and no FLUFF.I've been there and lived the road of opions and charltons, doctors included.Be patient, concistent, and have a vision of victory and you will live and be the hero of your own success story Elizabeth.

All the success and
the very best

John
