Tendon question?

Question
"I have been experiencing a dull pain on the inside of my lower leg just up from the ankle bone  and just inside of the shin bone. Not sure what tendon it is but I do know it is not shin splints. I am a experienced runner and know all the "no-no's" of overuse. I was wondering what are some specific exercises to maybe help heal a tendon? or any ideas you may have? I did take 10 days off from running and it did not help." Also I am 39, 5'3 and 126lbs. I wear the right shoes and run on mutiple surfaces. I run 4 days a week- 2 short, 1 medium and 1 long. I am currently running about 25 miles a week. I have already ran 2 marathons this year and training for the Mount Rushmore marathon. The dull pain has been there for about 3-4 week now.

Answer
Hi Michele
If your positive it is not shin splints. Its very likely the peroneal tendon.Tendons that pass over the ankle may develop tendinitis form local irritation or injury, causing pain, swelling and tenderness..This injury occurs when the peroneal tendons are dislocated from their normal groove behind the fibula componet of the ankle.I would go to google and type in the word peroneal tendon, and their you can get some treatment ideas and more info.I could tell you myself verbally but with my typing skills,it would be to long.I just feel that would be the best way for you to get the answers. If you have other questions just get in touch Michelle.

All the best

John
