Question
Hello sir,

I am trying to run a mile and a half within thirteen minutes.  However, I have no previous running experience and have never run a distance like that in my life.  I have tried running on a treadmill but all that machine does is put stress on my knees and foot while it tries to literally destroy me.
I'd like to run on concrete but the streets near my home are too crowded.  They have a large intersection after every block and it is impossible to run continously.  Best I can do i run a distance of about a hundred feet before having to stop for over a minute and run again.

So, seeing my hopeless situation, is there any exercise I can do to increase my stamina and speed?

Any answer will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much for your time.

Answer
Actually, running as fast as you can handle, with the rests at each intersection, is a method you can use to train for running.  Even though you won't be going continuously, your heart rate will still be going continuously. Another way to do it is to just run on the sidewalks and run 1 lap around a block.  This would be the easiest way to run continuously.
