Running triathlon

Question
I am in the middle of training for a triathlon.  What should be eaten before and after a triathlon or triathlon workout?
What do you think of Glaceau Vitamin Water and Gaterade Propel Fitness water after a good workout?
Are Balance or Clif bars any good?  What about protein drinks?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Gary
You didn't say what distance triathlon your training for.Are you going for the Big one or sprint etc.The only difference in eating before would be your meal plans over the number of days depending on which race you selected. The 1/2 iron man and full would reguire a 1 week plan.If it is a sprint,it is not much of a deal. You basically just eat a balance of carbs.protein and good fats and taper off the quanity as you aproach the race day.I think you no what is good for you.Forget the fancy waters. The bars are good if used properly in conjunction with good eating plan. There basically to fill the gaps and maintain sugar levels during the day.Protein shakes can enhance your recovery, but shouldn't be the total source. After the race is same as before except you want to make sure you get a little more protein. This is where the shakes would come in handy..Anything else get in touch.

To your success Gary

John
