jogging & hip pain -possibly iliac crest

Question
Throughout the years I have been able to jog on any type of surface; however, the last few years, the side of my hip (actually above the hip area - btwn the waist and hip -within iliac crest area) seems to hurt if I attempt to jog more than once a week! It does hurt to walk when it's like this.  There's pain even in a rotating position (hips are turned opposite of torso)  Usually the pain will go away in three days; However, this last time it lasted 1.5 wks.  (Please note that I also get the sciatic nerve problem, if I jog or walk too quickly.  Of course, I do get lower back pain, too!)

I have jogged on the treadmill and maintain a steady speed both on the treadmill & road.

Have you come across anyone else that seems to have a similar scenerio as mine?  I'm not sure what to do about this situation.  Jogging has been my main toning exercise for the last 20 yrs.

I don't know if you can advised, but . . . I'm not sure if I should visit an orthopedic who specializes in hips or back.  I've been thinking it may be a form of arthritis.

Please let me know your thoughts.  I would appreciate any comments you may have and am very glad to have found this site.

Sincerely,

Jani

Answer
How are ya Jani
Lets get right to it Jani. Not a big deal Jani, and stay away from the doctors. They will just give you a bunch of xrays and milk your situation instead of addressing the true cause and effect relationship of your situation. You have to get back to the basics Jani. All the things you mentioned tells me you have many structure embalances and alignement and weak musculature in the core area.Your body has been good to you.Now it is time for you to be good to it,and it will reward you once again. There is not one spicific thing that will correct it.It is a host of modalities you must incorporate, such weights, core exercises, streching.weight loss if neccessary, etc. etc.You have to rebuild the foundation of your house or it will crumble in time as it is doing now.Your body is talking to you Jani.It is your choice. It will not be easy, and it is going to take time and patience and focus and determination to correct those problems. My recomendation is if you don't no how to set up a program to address this properly,is to get a qualified trainer to set one up for you. There are a lot of so called trainers who just passed a certification test with no real experience in the real world,so be carefull.I work over the phone if your interested in exploring this. And YES i see your situations all the time, even with the world class runners i advise.Jani i hope i gave you food for thought, and if there is anything else get in touch.I know you didn't want to hear this.We all want quick fixes and think the docs have all the answers.Well i can tell you personally they don't.90 percent of the problems people have can be corrected by getting back to the basics of taking care of things before they happen. It is called prevention.
