Interval Training & Speed Development for Athletes

Question
-Thanks.
As for interval work,do you mean running for say ten minutes, then lifting weights, then running again? Also, what are 'plyos' and can I do these?------------------------

John
Since I began running on an indoor track and my treadmill this winter,I have gone from a 3.5 mph to 5 mph clip.
Will this speed carry over to baseball and football this summer? Am I getting more fast twitch muscles or whatever by running faster?
Answer -
Hi Brian
The running your doing is giving you an aerobic base for endurance threw out the event and yes it will carry over, but no recruitment of fast twich. You must do interval work in a sport specific program, but only after you have developed a good solid base over a couple months.

The very best to you

Answer
Hi Brian
Intervals are runs or short sprints which can range any where between 50 meters to 3 miles depending on your goals and event with rest phase in between runs. This is why i said sport specific.Plyos are short for plyometric which is another form of training to enhance performance. You can do thes also, but if your short on time i would stick to the run intervals.Plyos really can be pretty brutal.Rather me going over them, which would take to long, since their is so many variations.Put plyometric training in google and you will get all kinds of info.

To your success
