grip strength

2016/7/22 8:47:33

Question
Mr. Vargen,
How often would you train your forearms/fingers? My main aim is to improve grip strength.
Thanks for your help

Answer
Tarek,
Like all training you should examine your goals. You say you want to increase grip and forearm strength. What type of climbing are you doing or want to do that requires this kind of training.   I would say the easiest and most time tested is finger tip pull ups and push ups.  I have heard some very negative things about the commercial finger boards. If you use those be sure you have sufficient rest and be careful of tendonitis and ligiment strain.  I know a few climbers who ruined their season by "training" on these.
