Question
Hi im a 128 lbs. 5' 5" 13 year old rower. This is my 1st Fall season as a varsity and i was wondering what a good 6k time/ split would be for me, thanks! and I work hard at practice and go to gym about 4 or 5 times a week during the off season if that helps you at all, oh and my best 2k is 2:07.2 split/ 8:28 time.

Answer
     Jesse,
I am going to guess that you are a lightweight rower, or trying for the lightweight 8, so an 8:28 is an average 2k.   It is pretty difficult to gage what a 6k would be based off of a 2k, but in my experience you normally add 7 to 10 splits, so I would recommend shooting for a 2:15.5 split. However, you may have gotten stronger being a rookie, so I would recommend you take the first three thousand at 2:13 and if at three thousand meters left to go you don't have more energy, to take it up 3 or 4 splits. Just some words of inspiration because  I can relate: I was a lightweight, and Novice year I had a 9:30 2k, and by the end of my first Varsity spring I had a 7:50 2k.
Good luck!
