Question
Hi,
Im in my second spring season,Im 16 5'11,142 pounds. On my last 2k I pulled a 7:08. I wanted to know where i stack up compared to other highschool lieght wieghts? Also if you had any advice on how to breaking seven before the end of the season? Also my coach is teetering between racing a second eight or a lwt four, for me is it better to be the stroke of a second eight that  is good or 2 seat of a lwt 4 that is exceptional?

Answer
Hi Nick: Your time puts you in the top-one-third among lightweights your age.  The mean 2K is 7:17.

If you want to crack 7:00 in the short-term, you'll need to come off the start and first 40 at 1:40 or better.  From there, it is a question of hanging tough until the end.  You cannot allow your 500 to go above 1:50.  Do a power 10 if you are approaching 1:50.

It is always better to be part of an exceptional boat, no matter what seat you are in.

Good Luck/AP
