Question
Hi, I'm a 15 year old female rower. This is my 2nd season of rowing. I'm 5'4 and 127. My 2k is 8:19.6 and my 6k is 26:19.5. I'm aiming to row either on the first lightweight boat at school this year, and continue in college.

To be competitive, what times should I aim for to be competitive this season and for college?

Answer
Hi Lia: Your 2K time is very good.  In fact, it puts you in the 75th percentile per the Concept 2 online rankings for lightweight girls your age.

So, as long as your on-water technique is sound, you should make your varsity boat.

To be comparable in college (i.e., in the 75th percentile), you'll need to pull an 8:00 on the 2K.
