Question
I have a sophmore boy cox.  His team did great last year winning the state championships.  He is a really strong student.  How do I get him exposure to strong college rowing programs.

Answer
Hi Nancy: The criteria for coxswains getting recruited differs from oarsman.  Many smaller college programs just look for small incoming freshmen with no experience and train them.   Better programs are more selective and will recruit experienced coxswains.  But getting a full scholarship solely for being a coxswain is unlikely.

The best way for your son to get recruited and possibly get a scholarship is to spend a summer working with a top-level college coach in a summer program; or work in a junior National camp as a volunteer coxswain.  Get your son time with a college coach who can either recruit him directly or refer him to another coach.
