2k Time for Collegiate novice

2016/7/22 9:48:31

Question
I am a novice in college 6'3 220 lbs my 2k time is 6:28.2 I have never rowed before this year and was wondering if my 2k time is good for novice, and what 2k time coaches would want to see at the end of sophomore year if I were to transfer schools?

Answer
Hi Toban: Here is a breakdown of 2K times per the Concept II database (18-20 year-old heavyweights):

Average Time: 6:55.8

PERCENTILES
90th   75th   50th   25th
6:18.8 6:31.3 6:49.3 7:09.8

Your size and power makes you an obvious asset to an eight.  It's hard to say how much your time will go down in a year, but with added experience and conditioning, I can see you in the 90th percentile.

That said, your biggest focus should be on perfecting on-water technique and gaining race experience.

Good Luck/AP
