2k time for womens high school boats

2016/7/22 9:48:44

Question
I am a sophomore in high school. At the end of last year (freshman/novice) I was pulling a 7:47 on my 2k. I am 5'10" and weigh about 160 lbs. Is this good? What should I aim for if I want to row in college?

Answer
Hi Beth Marie: Your 2K time is excellent.  Per the Concept II Database, your time puts you in the Top-25% for women heavyweights between the ages of 15 to 17.

As for what time you need to row in college, that depends.  Many colleges (especially women's programs) will take women on their team with no rowing experience at all.  However, I'm guessing you want to know what a competitive time for a top-level program is or what you need to pull to get scholarship consideration.  I'd say by the time you are a senior, you want to pull a 7:38 or better on the 2K.  For scholarship consideration, college coaches will also want to know how well you and your crew did in major races and regattas.

Hope That Helps/AP
