Question
As a rower at 5'3", I was wondering where my weight should be at for a lightweight rower competing at a collegiate level. I know that as a lightweight it needs to be under 130, but for my height, what would put me at a better advantage?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Mary: Sorry for the late response.  I was on vacation.  There's not much you can do about your height.  5'-3" is a bit short for rowing; but many rowers succeed at a below-average height through good technique, good conditioning, and heart.

If you choose to row lightweight, which you should, you want to stay as close to the 130 lbs weight limit as you can.  You don't want to give up weight as that may cause you to lose muscle and power.
