Question
I am age 59. I took up rowing as a complete novice in a coxed 4 late last year. I am 5ft 5in tall and weigh 10 stone approx. Please could you give me an idea of my current level of performance for a 2000 and 5000 ergo.
My best times/splits are
2000m at 28spm - split 2.07.1 - time 8.28.4
5000m at 25                                                     spm - split 2.09.1 - time 21.31.4

Answer
Hi Sue: For women your age (58-60), you are well above average.  Based on the Concept II database, median times for 58-60 year old heavyweights (lightweight is 135 pounds and under) are:

2000 -- 9:26
5000 -- 25:40

Your 5000 meter time is in the 90th percentile.  So for a novice, you are doing quite well.
