Question
Hello.I am very interested in diving.I have never done it but would love to.I have snorkeled and prefer to be underwater than on land, perhaps a career of any kind underwater.Would my being hard of hearing(I wear 2 aids, can hear without them but not great)prohibit me from doing this?I really love the water and mr current career sucks really bad.

Answer
Hello Al. I do not see a problem for you learning to Scuba dive just because you are hard of hearing, however i HIGHLY recommend that you first see a Doctor (an Ear Specialist). Only he or she will be able to tell you if there are any other medical conditions that you will need to consider which could make diving unsafe for you. Equalizing the pressure in your ears with the ambient pressure while descending and ascending is the most important priority! I know a friend of mine that has a Bilateral Cochlear Implant (more complicated than your average hearing aid) and he is now a Dive Master! Personally, i don't see an issue based on what you have told me Al, but to be sure i would consult with a Doctor,or a Diving Physician. I hope this helps, and thanks for your question. Take care Ok.
