Weights --Buoyance

2016/7/22 10:35:47

Question
I weight 180lbs.  I am in a Padi beginners class and trouble with maintaining a swimming position i.e. parallel to the surface and pool floor.
What weights should I start with in the pool and also in the ocean?
Thanks

Answer
In the pool with a 3-5mm short wetsuit I'd say about 14lbs would be sufficient, in Open Water if you're using a 7mm full length wetsuit, I'd go for 16-20 lbs, a lot depends upon your body mass.

There is a chart on P. 213 of the PADI AOW book "Adventures in Diving" that might help.

Regards,
Andy
