Diving Flag part 2

Question
Jesse,
Thanks for your advice. I contacted the NH Marine Patrol and they said I should tow a diving flag as I swim across the lake. Ok, problem solved. Now I went to some scuba diving websites and while I can find plenty of flags, the NH Marine Patrol suggested I get the kind I can tie around my foot. I don't see any special flags like that. I have no experience with scuba diving, I'm just a swimmer, so this may be a dumb question but do I furnish my own rope to tow it along? Also, are these flags heavy, will they drastically slow me down? Basically, I'm having trouble deciding which flag type is best to get in my situation. Thanks again.

Dave

Answer
Ah good, you are making progress.  I find much of what I need at www.leisurepro.com.

Once there, do a search on the word 'float'.  One of the floats, Innovative Inflatable Dive-N-Float will probably work for you.  It is a float that has a bottom in the center so you could store water, etc in it for the long swim.  You could use it as a float if you got tired.  It has an acceptable dive flag on poles mounted on it.  You could attach a line to it and your body.  I think your waist would be good since it does not move much during a swim.  I'm not sure if the line might not get tangled in your feet though.

When we scuba down rivers that have possible boat traffic, we float one of these above the group and it is tied to the lead diver and it trails along.

Have fun!
