lifespan of scuba gear

Question
I was just given a truck load of equipment Tanks computers gear wet and dry suits cameras all in what a appears to be great shape clean and well serviced but has not been used in 5 years.  I'm curious on what the life span on gear is, and will dive shops service gear that has not been inspected in all those years (tanks)ect?

Answer
Hi,

It's going to completely depend on each individual piece.  I cannot really answer this question without seeing it but cylinders will need new pressure testing, all regs will need to be checked, and everything will need inspecting.

I haven't personally bought any new gear in over 5 years, if that helps put things in perspective.  You should find most of it nearly ready to go, but it has to be checked.

saludos,
James
