Hawes Flintlock

2016/7/22 9:05:57

Question
I have a Hawes flintlock, ball and powder, given to me some thirty years ago. Engraving on the weapon include the word "Tower". It also has "Japan 1877" under the name Hawes. I believe Hawes is an American manufacturing company so I wonder if this is a replica or if there is any value to this piece.

Answer
Terry,

I have no direct information about the flintlock gun itself, but Hawes was an American Importer. They did not manufacture the guns themselves, they would import them in from all over the world. It is quite possible that they had a source of japanese weapons at some point and time. Hawes firearms have little to no collectors value. If I see any reference to a flintlock weapon from Hawes, I will forward it along to you.
