Question
Today I purchasd a Savage 19 NRA( I think) full stock no military markings, open "v" sight on barrel and a muzzel protector for the threaded end of the barrel. Nov 20, 1917 is last patnd date. What do I have?

Answer
Hello John. You purchased a Savage Model 19 which possibly is an NRA model. If so, the rear sight has been changed. It did not come with a "V" notch rear sight. The NRA model was equipt with a receiver adjustable peep sight and a high blade or closed blade front sight. The receiver sight sat over the word "FIRE". Does your clip magazine have SAVAGE MODEL 19 NRA stamped on it, or does it just say SAVAGE SPORTER? These were both 5 shot clips with a knob sticking out of the bottom. You can see a Savage Model 19 NRA at GUNBROKER.com and search for Auction # 153811598. Also, you should find a serial number under the bolt, stamped on the last crossmetal as you remove the bolt. I hope this information helps and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
