single shot 410

Question
Dear GCH,

I have a Crescent Certified 410 shotgun that was given to me by my grandfather.  The spring that holds the forearm on is worn out. I need a new one. I have looked at part dealers online but i am not sure if the shotgun on the diagram that they have is the same one that I have. If you could tell me where to get this part i would sure appreciate it.

                    Thank David

Answer
That spring is not critical in terms of its weight, so if you can get a spring that is close you can probably modify with with a vice and file and some time spent. Short of that, you can have a gunsmith make a spring to replace it.

A good gunsmith will have leaf spring stock on hand, and springs such as that are among the simplest to make.
