Crimson Trace Laser Grips

Question
I was web browsing and came across a site www.lasergripdiscounters.com they have laser grips that look like they would help in a self defense, Home protection situation for someone like myself. I practice but I've never been in a life/death situation and I'm worried about my reaction time if it ever came to that. What are your thoughts about laser grips?

Answer
Many people like laser grips, but I prefer to use sights.  For a gun near the bed, or for carrying at night, you can use tritium sights so the sights are visible in the dark.

I think it's mainly a matter of personal preference.  For aiming at a close target, I think either would be ok.  For aiming at a farther target, the gun may have to be scanned across the target area to get the dot on the target if there is no background behind the target (because you won't be able to see the dot unless it's on a target).  That's why I prefer sights: because seeing the sights doesn't depend on having something onto which the dot can be seen.

Hope this helps!

Dave
