Hawes .22 Western SixShooter

2016/7/22 9:19:52

Question
Hello Mr. Lark

I have a Hawes .22 Cal Western Sixshooter single action revolver that was my dad's who passed in '77. The barrel to the front of the cylinder is about 51/2". The left side of the  barrel is stamped Hawes Firearms Company Los Angeles California and under that the word Germany. The end of the barrel is stamped with the number 67, then a leaf-like symbol, then a symbol I can't make out. The ser. nr. is 7, maybe a 4 (scratched) 700. Following that is another symbol enclosed within a kind of circle and another round symbol next to the ser. nr. There is a piece missing from the right side of barrel but the screw (one of many on the weapon) is still in place. Walnut handle with brass fittings. Cylinder is scratched from the hammer advance/lock mechanism and general signs of wear. Any idea of the age and value or where I might take it for an honest appraisal in Tulsa OK? Wait for the next gun show?

Answer
Forest,

The Marshal Single action western style series revolvers were made by J.P. Sauer Co.

A Western Marshall in "poor to Fair" condition has an approximate retail value of $75 to $100. As you have indicated, its best to have it personally inspected by a qualified person.

Same may be located via your local phone directory, the web, and/or the gun-show idea is not a bad one either IF you can confirm the appraisers history etc.

Any reputable licensed gun dealer should have a qualified appraiser that can help you.

If you want/need any parts for your revolver I'd check with Numrich Gun Parts Co. at www.e-gunparts.com

Thanks for the question Forest.
