NR Davis & Sons

2016/7/22 9:20:35

Question
I have come across an old NR Davis & Sons side by side that is in disrepair.  However, I think that with some work, it will make a nice mantel piece.  It chambers a 12 ga shell, but no caliber markings are on the gun.  I did found a possible serial number and was hoping someone could shed some light on it.  C4681 is on both the receiver and under the forearm.  Regards,  Chris Phythian

Answer
Chris,

I cannot narrow it down any better than you with the possible serial number provided.

However, I can tell you that Davis was a manufacturer of both percussion and cartridge shotguns from 1853 to 1919. All of these guns were of utility grade and very well made for their cost.

There were over two dozen different models of N.R. Davis double barrel shotguns produced. Some were hammer percussion and some were cartridge. If in "good" condition the low end value would be approximately $200 with value going as high as $500 depending upon model.

I realize that the gun that you have is not of such quality and that you only want to display it. I just thought that you may like to have the approximate values if in good condition.

I realize that the parameters that I've given you are pretty broad but it the best information that I have available to me. I hope it helps some.

Thanks for the question.
