Question
I am trying to find out how old my Sears & Roebuck Co. Model# 101.7 20 Gauge - Side-By-Side Double Barrel Shotgun is. It has the dual triggers and break action loading.
Answer
Hi Jonathan,
Your Sears Model 101.7 20ga. is actually a Stevens model 311 double barrel and in good condition has a retail value of about $350.
As for year of manufacture, all I can tell you is that Sears carried sporting double guns from 1892 and 1988. I do not have cross reference date codes for Sears/Stevens.
However, I can tell you that in the Stevens version it appears that the model was available from about 1949 to 1968. Also they had a date code stamped on every double barrel shotgun in the Stevens line. It was located behind the hinge pin or ahead of the trigger guard on the bottom of the frame. It will appear as a small circle containing a number and letter.
If by chance you happen to have this code, I could cross reference the Stevens number as to date of manufacture. I cannot confirm that this number will appear on the Sears version but since I have seen the Sears model with the Stevens name also on it, it may be possible.
Thanks for the question.
