how would i find out what year of this revolver is based on serial # ??

If you email S&W they tend to be more than happy to tell you the age of a handgun based on its serial number. Or, you can take it to a gunshop since most gunsmiths have a copy of The Complete Book of Smith & Wesson handy.

Or, since I just happened to have recently picked up a copy of the latest issue of the complete S&W book myself, write me back with the serial number and complete model number and I'll look it up for you.
