Marlin 20 gauge model 31-20

Question
This shotgun has been handed down to me - it's been in the family for many years so says my mother-in-law.  Can you give an estimate based on fair to good condition?
Thank you, Jeff

Answer
Jeff,

Generally, I am trying to get out of the business of putting valuations on firearms since I cannot see pictures or get a real sense of the condition without actually looking at the gun.

I did a quick look up and here is what I found.  The model 31-20 was manufactured during the period between 1911 and 1923.  It was made in four 'grades', A, B, C and D.  Since I have no idea which one, I will give you the ranges for each one.  I don't know enough about this particular gun to tell you how to determine the 'grade', although generally it is based on features and embellishments.

Conditions are graded based on percentage of new, so I will give you the range for 70% to 90% which would be reasonable for a gun of this age.  For 80% you can roughly split the range of values provided.

Grade A - $165 to $220
Grade B - $275 to $330
Grade C - $385 to $440
Grade D - $635 to $825

Hope this helps you out...
