Answer
Hello Ryan.

Most pellet and BB guns operate on compressed air, which is usually provided by a spring cocking mechanism or CO2 cylinder. The electric models may use a battery-powered air pump or a rotating disc, and some of the lower grade models operate on a spring-fired striker or piston. The repair procedures for your gun will depend on the exact action type and also on the brand name. The M4A1 terminology is a common model number used by many manufacturers so you need to look on the rifle for the manufacturer's name and other information. Once you know exactly which type it is, then you can check the following site for instruction manuals, repair instructions, and replacement parts:

Many of the lower grade airsoft guns are not worth the cost or hassle of repair so it might be cheaper for you to just buy a new one. This is especially true if the rifle has an internal air cylinder or compression mechanism which has burst from being overcharged. If you aren't able to confirm who made the rifle or you aren't sure how to find the information on the site above, then try taking it to a local gunsmith or shooting range and you might find someone that can help you for free.

Good luck!

Bob
